[pandorabots-general] Alicebot to control device

No need to worry, I am not one of the admins. Yes you are right about
lag time. Nuance's Dragon could add at least a 2 two seconds delay and
the Bot AI would add at least 2 seconds more. Then your output
controller logic would add perhaps another second of delay. But we are
not talking about a race car, just a radio controlled toy car. A
really good 2.5 GHz dual processor CPU might be able to do all this in
less than 4 seconds. I would think the command knowledge base would be
less than a thousand entries; it would not cause significant delay.
Prior examples of voice command PCs' I know of are several years old,
and older versions of Dragon did not perform nearly as well as the
current version; which is very fast and accurate now. Find true
compilers for all your code; do not use 4GL and 5GL interpreters, very
bad for real time processing tasks. You may need to avoid Vista; too
bloated and slow an OS. Windows 2000 could be the best choice, unless
you need the XP text to speech agent subsystem. But win 2000 has MS
agent also, I'm just not certain the version is adequate. Now before
you Linux penguins start hopping up and down; show me your Text to
speech voice agents!

Oops... So it's because of waiting human approval? I thought my emails
failed :D I'm sorry Mr Stanley. I beg your pardon for a little
flooding this list :)

Using avatar? Wow... it's very challenging idea. Many things to catch
up. Wish me luck :)

BTW, for now my construction design roughly looks like this:

Plant <----> Controller <----> server PC <----> LAN connection <---->
client PC

1. Plant:
    consists of:
    a. sensor: temperature sensor
    b. actuator: heater and fan
2. Controller
using Zelio Smart Relay SR3B101BD from Schneider
3. Server PC
This is where ALICE installed. To pass parameter from/to
Controller. Passing will be done using <system> tag. I'm still
evaluating, whether using Program E or Program D.
4. Client PC
Speech recognizer and TTS installed here. Commands and response
will be passed from/to the server via HTTP (xmlrpc).

May be you'll ask, why i use 2 PC as server and client all at once,
instead of just using single PC as interface to the controller. The
reason is simple: my professor wants that :D The initial plan was just
controlling PLC over TCP/IP. I added ALICE plan later. Because i think
control interface using push button in HTML form would be just too
old-fashioned :)

Regards,

Ariyo
