[pandorabots-general] [pandorabots- Ideas on ChatBot Technology and Applications in Education

If little or no programming is a key issue, again I would recommend
Jabberwacky as all you have to do is talk to it and offer corrections,
and the logs can be edited by the instructor. Bulk text FAQ or Q&A are
now also a feature. You can 'own' the bot, and design the character to
your own specifications, but the database is not transferable as far as
I know. Holding the kids interest is difficult but not impossible. A
well developed character and story plot are fundamental. As Hollywood
as recently re-learned, no amount of special effects can save a poor
story. I think the most attractive aspect to the kids would be seeing
how the bot grows in it's abilities thanks to their efforts. They
learn the joy of teaching themselves. Non linear interactive story
telling is a new form of communication that currently has no clear
winning rules to go by yet. I would not start with a blank slate, yet
the properties of the character are essential to success. And you must
have a clear understanding of the AI's limitations, and doge those
bullets in the character's design. The scope and nature of the virtual
world the character lives in is a critical factor also. To summarize,
it's all about managing user expectations. I have worked with several
7-9 year olds, and they can be fascinated by the bot teaching process.
Teenagers I suspect will require an already sophisticated bot. I
would be delighted to hear further discussion of bot design for children
of different ages.

What age are the children that would be using this? Too young and they
would not understand the technology, too old and they would loose
interust.

	Hi there

I think you may have mistaken the whole idea ...

I am a Teacher...I would like to utilize Chatbots within
education....

The whole idea being using the technology as a tool ...with the
Pupils themselves creating the chatbot intelligence/knowledge ....
