[pandorabots-general] Speaking of Second Life

IN addition to Dragon, which I'm sure you all know about, Nuance also
provides a variety of TTS (text to speech) subsystems, many of which
can be purchased separately. They have a good selection of languages,
genders, and voice types to choose from. They have server based TTS
that can be part of a web site, Users do not have to pre download the
voice files. I'd recommend you add TTS to your character, especially
when working with students. It greatly enhances the performance. This
sales promo just happened to come in today. Disclaimer: I have NO
affiliation with Nuance, and I'm not making any kind of recommendation,
If you look back over the past two months of this forum, several other
TTS engines were put forward.

Dear Developer,

The Dragon family of software developer kits and run time licenses
continues to gain market acceptance as more software firms and service
providers look to use voice recognition to enhance their solutions.

LICENSING INCENTIVES AVAILABLE FOR RUNTIME PURCHASES MADE BEFORE
SEPTEMBER 21ST, 2007!

With the availability of v9.5 for both the Client and Server SDK's we
are now poised to offer greater performance, stability and functionality
over previous versions. Areas of focus include Closed Captioning,
Audiomining and Voice Mail Transcription applications.

 Closed Captioning

Dragon NaturallySpeaking continues to see growing demand for closed
captioning based applications used by variety of industries such as
Television Broadcasters for emergency captioning, Classroom use for the
disabled and Relay Services for the hearing impaired. ISVs who look to
gain a competitive advantage are exploring the use of the Dragon Client
SDK to embed voice dictation/recognition within their applications. This
results in the ability to communicate more effectively with a larger
segment of the population. With our new "Phrase Hypothesis"
functionality, captioning is now at near real-time speeds.

If these topics are potentially interesting to your company, send an
email to jim.mcdonald at nuance.com
<BLOCKED::BLOCKED::mailto:jim.mcdonald at nuance.com> with the words
"CLOSED CAPTIONING" in the subject line to receive information on the
Dragon Client SDK options. Please include your phone number as well to
be contacted directly for a more detailed discussion.

 Audiomining of Pre-recorded Audio

Today, there are hundreds of millions of audio files out there
containing valuable information. The problem is that they are only
accessible by physically listening to them. Dragon Audiomining provides
the ability to "mine" audio files for keywords. This process enables an
end user to now search the audio by keyword. Imagine if you could
search your business audio archives for specific words. No more wasted
hours of manually listening to pre-recorded audio for a single word,
phrase, or topic. This can be important in areas such as Legal
Discovery or Broadcast Audio the ability to search on topics from
decades of archived programming.

If this scenario is potentially interesting to your company, send an
email to jim.mcdonald at nuance.com
<BLOCKED::BLOCKED::mailto:jim.mcdonald at nuance.com> with the words
"AUDIOMINING" in the subject line to receive information on the Dragon
Server SDK options. Please include your phone number as well to be
contacted directly for a more detailed discussion.

 Voice Mail to Email Conversion:

Business people are flooded with messages; text messages, voicemail and
email. In an effort to provide centralized rapid access, vendors in the
area of unified messaging services are looking to use Dragon server
technologies to assist.

There are several approaches to using Dragon in this application. Voice
mail processing requires speaker independent voice recognition along
with the ability to process telephony grade audio files. These
parameters lend themselves to the use of Dragon to either provide a
summarization of the voicemail via email or to hand off a VR converted
file to a human Transcriptionist for editing (if a fully accurate
transcript is required).

If either of these scenarios is potentially interesting to your
company, send an email to jim.mcdonald at nuance.com
<BLOCKED::BLOCKED::mailto:jim.mcdonald at nuance.com> with the words
"VOICEMAIL CONVERSION" in the subject line to receive information on the
Dragon Server SDK. Please include your phone number as well to be
contacted directly for a more detailed discussion.

 Sincerely,

 Jim McDonald

Subject: [pandorabots-general] Speaking of Second Life

I'd be interested in hearing from any others who are working with
applications of AIML in Second Life. As a long-term AIML user and a
full-bore, two+ SL addict, I'm researching the use of AIML specifically
for educational opportunities in SL. I have three personal sims
in-world and am just now developing some intelligent personalities to
host various locations.

Thanks for any responses...
